Of course, that doesn't mean Tony won't be back for a couple more Avengers movies...

I saw it this evening. I, too, enjoyed the humor that was mixed in throughout the movie. It also had the usual metal-suited awesomeness that we've come to expect, but I have a few complaints:

*spoilers*
1. I feel somewhat cheated by the revelation about the Mandarin. The trailers were all about building him up and then they hit us with that? Also, if I recall correctly, the name "The Ten Rings" comes up in the first movie, so they missed a great tie-in opportunity.
2. Was I the only one bewildered by the kid? I mean, he was funny...but Tony acts like he knows him from the start, but I don't think he did. In their initial meeting, I was expecting to find out that the kids mom was an old friend/flame or something...
3. The glowing red people were...interesting. I spent far too much time wondering if they were from some ancient Iron Man comic of the past, but I don't know my Iron Man lore very well. I do have some complaints about how they can grab a suit with one red-hot hand and suddenly the suit is lying on the ground like a pile of scrap. Even Whiplash's electric whips weren't that effective in incapacitating an Iron Man suit.

But alas...this is the kind of "thinking too hard" that I know I shouldn't do with summer blockbuster movies. All in all, it was a good flick and I'm sure I'll be buying it on Blu-ray when it comes out.MarcinMNhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03809791516038743561noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10487188.post-59245941792154497992013-05-18T16:32:26.882-05:002013-05-18T16:32:26.882-05:00I really enjoyed your post about super powers on A...I really enjoyed your post about super powers on Anne Elisabeth's blog. It makes it more than some old horror story. Probably, some people will see supernatural thriller elements, and others might think they see a set up for an evil priest plot.

Two more thoughts on the priest. Does it really have to be a Catholic priest? The answer may well be yes, but it's also true that the Hollywood trope is to depict all Christianity as Catholicism. Would it make any difference to the story if it were a Lutheran or a Methodist minister instead? Also, if Garretsburg has a Catholic parish, wouldn't it also be likely to have at least one other church of some other denomination? If there's also a Protestant church in Garretsburg, did the Protestant pastor also get upset about the rumors of occult activity?Bainespalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02036151461448619765noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10487188.post-23493426969154699402013-04-24T05:02:20.177-05:002013-04-24T05:02:20.177-05:00This is similar to a journey I had to take, althou...This is similar to a journey I had to take, although yours came much quicker. Maybe I needed to shovel some snow.

A girl from my hometown was kidnapped, probably raped and killed. It took more than 5 months to find the body. The suspect was arrested almost immediately. He was a high-level repeat sex offender.

He currently sits in a prison, sentenced to death. Every time there's a new news story about him, about appeals and so forth, people from my hometown, people on Facebook cheer. Are glad that he'll get what he deserved. I followed the trial as much as anyone.

But somewhere along the line, I felt uncomfortable. I started feeling sad for him. Wondered if anyone visited him, tried to share Jesus' love with him. I almost wanted to be the person to do that, but I always also wondered if I would be seen a traitor if the hometown found out. We all hurt together. But surely he was/is hurting too.

Anyway. Like I said, this was a process of several years.

It's so hard to be counter cultural sometimes. So I don't know if it's my unfamiliarity with the genre or the way we get little snippets every week. But I want more information in each segment than is given. And not always in a "ooh, this is good give me more" kind of way. :(

But, I like the idea of trying to unravel a mystery within a mystery and how the two are connected, so I'm coming back. I get a constant impression of a deserted town, because the only people caught on camera seem to be the small crew and certain townspeople. Which can be good or bad, I think, depending on what you do with it. Why wasn't Leon filming in the clerk's office, and why wasn't Staci asking questions then? I would have thought local gossip (or digging for it) would be high on the list of useful tidbits for these budding newsies. And perhaps some bits of Leon catching Ray being a useless twit--even if it's in the background--to keep all the threads of the story moving along...?Lex Keatinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06615789417676118852noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10487188.post-85632372089667015742013-04-19T14:18:47.104-05:002013-04-19T14:18:47.104-05:00D'oh!
